WACO -- A Waco flag that has traveled throughout the middle east has returned home with the soldier who carried it.
Maj. David Lamkin received a city flag in July from former Waco Mayor Jim Bush.
Lamkin took the flag with him overseas where he took pictures of it in various places including Germany, Italy, Kuwait and even Saddam Hussein's palace.
Officials tell us it's an honor to have both the flag and a son of Waco return home safely.
"I think it was special for him to care enough about his city to want to carry the flag, a symbol of his city that he loves, uh, with him, keep it with him, and to be able to share that experience with our citizens," said Larry Holze, Waco City Hall.
Lamkin teaches aerospace studies at Baylor University and he plans to teach the leadership lessons he learned during his deployment.
