WACO -- A recent survey by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers classified the Lake Waco Dam as having moderate to high-risk characteristics.
So engineers from the Fort Worth District are working with the Waco Corps to improve the safety of the dam.
The screening process measures current dam behavior, how well the dam meets current design criteria and potential consequences of dam failure.
And since it's already 47-years-old issues are to be expected.
"The dam and the lake are functioning as designed. We have some normal seepage issues that have downstream consequences," said Heath McLane, Lake Waco Manager.
However the corps says there are no plans to change the operations at the dam.
