COLLEGE STATION -- A College Station family is counting their blessings tonight even after a fire ripped through their home leaving them homeless.
A house fire is any homeowner's worst nightmare and for Pete Munoz, that nightmare became a reality Wednesday evening, when his home off Fincastle Loop went up in flames.
"It's just so surreal when you're driving up here and you can see a huge cloud a smoke from as far away as we were and you're like, 'Oh my gosh.'" said Munoz.
Pete says his first concern was for his 16-year-old son Michael, who was home alone.
Fortunately he was able to escape without serious injury. The Munoz family home on the other hand was heavily damaged.
"You see this happen on the news and you feel so badly for people who lose their homes but when it's your own you feel so helpless."
But a supportive neighborhood and the Munoz's faith is what Pete says will get them through this trying time.
"I don't question what's happened," said Pete. "My faith in God tells me we'll be alright."
Neighbor of seven years, Julie Johns says, "They're a hardworking, loving family that would do anything for you and we'll do anything for them as well."
The cause of the fire is still unknown but the fire department tells us it started in the garage
