Fort Hood, TX — The Army will not be awarding the victims of the Fort Hood shooting massacre Purple Hearts. That, according to a position paper from the Department of Defense.
U.S. Congressman R-John Carter, representing the Killeen-Ft. Hood area, introduced legislation that would give the 32 living survivors and another 13 posthumous Purple Heart awards to the victims in the November 5, 2009 shooting on the Army base of Fort Hood.
The department stated that awarding survivors could complicate Major Nidal Hasan's trial which is set to begin May 29.
