Smashburgers employee fights off attempted robber

The Temple Police Department is investigating an attempted robbery that occurred at a local eatery early Sunday morning.

According to the report, 8:32 a.m., officers were dispatched to "Smashburgers" restaurant, located at 3008 South 31st Street, in reference to an aggravated robbery report. The victim advised officers that, while he was taking out the trash, a suspect grabbed him from behind. The suspect demanded the victim take him inside the business to get the money. The victim said he struck the front of the suspect’s head with the back of his head, and the suspect released him. The victim received a minor laceration to the chest area during the incident, and the suspect fled on foot, headed west from the scene. Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9, wearing dark jeans and a black mask.
