A Temple man was arrested after officers found he reportedly left a child unattended around a controlled substance.

On March 18, officers responded to a call about an unconscious man leaving a child unattended in the 5200 block of West Adams Avenue. The suspect, who was later identified as Joshua John Guerra, 32, was found on the floor of the house by the party who called to report the incident. The caller stated Guerra was supposed to be caring for the child, but the child was unattended in the residence. The reporting party advised that they took the child and left the residence due to fear of the suspect’s behavior.

Officers attempted to make contact at the residence and after several minutes of knocking the suspect finally answered the door. They asked for permission to enter the residence to speak with the subject, which was granted. The male appeared very disoriented and confused walking aimlessly about the residence as the officers were speaking with him. Officers talked with the male for several minutes, and the male never mentioned the child he was supposed to be caring for. Officer located a suspected controlled substance lying on the kitchen counter, which was confiscated by the officers. The controlled substance could have been accessed by the child.

Guerra is now charged with endangering a child.
