COLLEGE STATION -- It may be All Hallow's Eve but with only one day left until Halloween, Lauren Holman has some tips before you let your kiddos go trick-or-treating tomorrow night to help keep them safe from things that go bump in the night.

The decorations are up and the costumes are ready.

Now all that's left to do is go trick or treating.

"We hope to have lots of trick or treaters and people come look at the lawn," said Wendy Gelner.

Neighbor, Tricia Anderson added, "It's really exciting getting the children ready."

But before you let your ghouls and goblins go door-to-door Wednesday night, local law enforcement says it's important to talk to your children about how to stay safe.

"It's all about the candy," said Officer Rhonda Seaton with the College Station Police Department. "They're not thinking of safety. That's something the parents need to do."

Officer Seaton says there's never been any reports of serious injury on Halloween here locally but according to safekids.org twice as many child pedestrians are hit on Halloween than any other day.

Gelner says, "Three of the kids will have cell phones and we're going to light them up pretty good and they'll stay in a group like the buddy system."

"That's the trick," said Anderson. "If they don't stay together then we'll go home."

Another concern? Sex offenders.
