Waco police searching for man considered to be armed and dangerous

Waco police are searching for a man who fled after being pulled over on a traffic stop Thursday morning.

The incident happened at 9:50 a.m. in the 3300 block of Lake Shore Drive when a black man took of running on foot, after being pulled over. The officer then began chasing the man. The man managed to get back to his vehicle and drive off in his car.

Another officer then spotted the man, running a stop sign, at 19th Street and Summer. The man then pulled into an alley, got out of the car, and fled on foot again. Police have taken his vehicle and will search it.

“We have recovered the car. We believe we know who the person is, and at this point is considered to be armed and dangerous,” said Waco Police Spokesman Patrick Swanton.

Police sealed of several streets within a couple blocks of one another in the area where the man last fled, but have been unsuccessful in locating the man.
 

"At this point it looks like he may have gotten out of the area, but we’re continuing to search in several other areas. We have numerous officers attempting to find the guy," said Swanton.
 

McLennan County Sheriff's Office and a canine unit were also called in to help with the search. 

There may additional charges against the man, which Swanton couldn't give details at this time, pending the outcome of the search of the vehicle.
