Waco, Tx — A Central Texas man being held in the McLennan County Jail on intoxication assault charges, after being on the run since October.
Jose Ricardo Rocha-Meranon, 19, was booked into the McLennan County jail on Monday after being arrested in Bell County on New Year’s Eve on separate charges.
According to police, Rocha-Meranon is responsible for injuring a man, following a drunk driving accident. Sergeant Patrick Swanton, spokesman for Waco Police Department, said Rocha-Meranon was driving in the 400 block of Loop 340, on the access road on July 29, 2012 when he crashed at 2:19 a.m.
“Officers were able to determine that he was the driver of a vehicle that failed to negotiate a bend in the road, lost control of the vehicle, crashed into a guard rail, went down an embankment, hit some railroad tracks and came to rest on the other side of the railroad tracks,” said Swanton.
Rocha-Meranon had two passengers in his vehicle. One of those passengers, Trinidad Acevedo, 42, of El Paso, suffered serious injuries, internally, including broken ribs and possible spinal injuries.
Swanton says lab results revealed Rocha-Meranon was drunk, and due to the severity of Acevedo’s injuries, he was charged with intoxication assault. A warrant for Rocha-Meranon’s arrest was issued October 17, 2012. However, Waco police were unable to locate him until his New Year’s Eve arrest in Bell County.
No bond has been set for Rocha-Meranon because he is also being detained on an immigration hold.
