McLennan Community College is thinking about ditching the ‘Community’ from its’ name. The item was up for discussion at last night’s board of trustees meeting.

Some believe a name change will improve the school's enrollment numbers and identity throughout the state.

The school will conduct a local survey soon to gauge interest before bringing it to a vote.

“The Board wanted to make sure they’re proactvive- that they’re looking at the future and they wanted to make sure they considered everything they need to talk about as as far as strategic planning.” says Johnette McKown, President of MCC.

MCC opened in 1965 and is actually the first college in Texas to have the word ‘community’ in its’ name.
