Just hours after an officer-involved shooting with a U.S. Deputy Marshal claimed the life of a wanted man, a Waco police officer shot a man who was attempting to aim a rifle at police.

Police were called to a domestic disturbance at 2010 Lyle Avenue.

A young man and his girlfriend were fighting at his grandfather’s house.

The grandfather called the cops and told his grandson the cops were coming.

The angered grandson then went to get a rifle from a closet.

That’s when the grandson and his grandfather began wrestling for the rifle.

Police showed up to see the struggle.

The teenager ripped the rifle away from his grandfather and began to raise it towards a Waco police officer. The cop fired two shots- one of them hit Alexander Howard Mendoza, 19.

“At that point we took him into custody, said Sgt. patrick Swanton of Waco P.D. We removed the rifle from him. An ambulance was called for him and he was taken to Hillcrest Hospital by ambulance.”

Aside from a bullet wound, Mendoza is now facing an Attempted Capital Murder charge and is currently in McLennan County Jail.
