Waco police are still working to identify a body found in a local creek Friday afternoon.

Authorities say around 12:30 p.m., a resident nearby saw an arm sticking out of the creek, and it appeared to look unnatural.

“A resident in that area had seen an arm in the creek, sticking out kind of unnatural looking,” said Sergeant Patrick Swanton of Waco PD.

Swanton says the body appears to be a male. And, initial investigation shows the body had been in the creek at least a few hours. Police dragged the body out of some brush and sent it off for autopsy.

"We don't know if it was foul play involved or if it just happened to be a homeless person that fell into the water and got tangled up in the trees and maybe didn't know how to swim. There are a few deep spots in there. But, that's what our investigation will determine," said Swanton.

The autopsy should be able to tell how long the person has been dead and what may have lead to their death.
