YESTERDAY WAS THE FIRST DAY FOR LOCAL VETERANS TO GET THEIR FREE FLU SHOTS.

TWO-HUNDRED AND FOURTY VETERANS SHOWED UP YESTERDAY AND OFFICIALS SAY THEY EXPECT MORE EVERYDAY THIS WEEK.

THE WALK-IN PROGRAM IS PUT ON BY CENTRAL TEXAS VETERANS HEALTH CARE SYSTEM AND RUNS THROUGH NOVEMBER NINTH.

THE FLU SEASON HEATS UP WHEN THE TEMPERATURES COOL DOWN.

ORGANIZERS SAY VETERANS ARE MORE PRONE TO THE FLU DUE TO AGE AND UNDERLYING HEALTH PROBLEMS.

"IT'S PART OF OUR DUTY AND HONOR TO SERVE THE VETERANS WHO SERVED US. AND AS AN EMPLOYEE OF CTVHCS, YA' KNOW, THAT'S JUST ONE SMALL THING WE CAN DO IS TO MAKE IT A SUCCESSFUL FLU CAMPAIGN SEASON." SAID ELICIA GREENE, ASST. CHIEF OF INFECTION CONTROL AT CTVHCS

NO APPOINTMENT IS NECESSARY.

VETERANS ONLY NEED TO BRING A FORM OF ID.
