A Woodway teenager is charged with resisting and evading arrest after police say he was found with controlled substances and attempted to run from authorities.

Thomas James Hurtt, 19, was driving in the 1000 block of Willowbend Drive at 11:36 p.m. on Monday night, according to Robert Smith, Assistant Chief of the Woodway Police Department. Smith says an officer noticed his 2002 black Chevy Cavalier was parked on the wrong side of the road. When the officer drove up on the vehicle, Hurtt allegedly ducked down in the car.

Upon approaching Hurtt in the car, the officer was suspicious that Hurtt was in possession of drugs. The drug dog was called in and alerted officers that there were drugs in the vehicle. The officer then reportedly asked Hurtt if he had anything else. Hurtt then allegedly handed over what officers believe to be methamphetamines and took off running.

Officers then tased Hurtt and took him into custody.

Hurtt is charged with evading arrest, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and four counts of possession of a controlled substance, including OxyContin, Hydrocodone, methamphetamines, and mushrooms.
